It all started in 1986

Thanks to John Larsen, the Director of the company and a wonderful person, from Melbourne in Australia. The company was then called Malika. We started with the Australian market and still work closely with top buyers in women’s clothing. The company was down sized and temporarily closed in 1999 when John was operated after being diagnosed with a brain tumor. Very sadly, he never recovered. Vinod Aggarwal, from the Malika team, took over as Director and the company was renamed India Antiques. We fondly remember John as an exceptional friend and boss, who made great efforts towards the well being of his staff and the satisfaction of our clients. He touched many lives and still continues to do so – the impact of his generous contributions towards his employees’ children’s education is still being felt even today.

Memories…

Written by an employee: “Malika Holdings Pty Ltd was an Australian company importing from India, South America, Hong Kong, China. I joined when the company was small and saw it grow into a highly successful and significant operator from India. An extraordinary company trading during the years of great innovation and opportunity in fashion. Brilliant staff. We were pioneers in Asian manufacturing. During my time at Malika I worked in retail eventually managing 12 stores while developing handicraft and home wares lines in India for wholesale. In the early 80’s, I directed the design and marketing team during our years of phenomenal growth and success. The Malika story was about extraordinary staff in Sales, Design, Manufacturing and Distribution operating in a favorable quota market and during mostly good economic times. A great story of the 70’s and 80’s…..”

India Antiques

Vinod Aggarwal had joined Malika as an adminstrative officer in 1986. He became a trustee and confidant of John Larsen and with him the Indian office expanded and flourished. Over the years, Vinod’s knowledge about fabrics, garments and furniture  grew, resulting in travels with John to factories all over India in order to carry out inspections. He decided to carry on the legacy left by John by working with the old staff and factories until today, spanning a period of 31 years.

…to new horizons

The company has expanded its clientele over the years to the Canadian market, supplying Indian handicrafts and furniture on a big scale. They have outlets in Singapore for children’s garments and also work closely with buyers from Spain, Hong Kong, America and New Zealand.

Over the years, we have gained great understanding and long lasting relationships with both our buyers and manufacturers. We have trust and faith in their business dealings and in the quality of their products. We feel as if we are a part of a larger family and enjoy working together.
